Dispersive Raman spectroscopy applied to diagnosis skin neoplasia

Abstract

This research project aims to apply the technique of dispersive Raman spectroscopy to identify the biochemical changes associated with neoplastic pathologies in biological tissues of human skin in vitro and in vivo. The diagnosis will be performed at the differentiation between normal and abnormal tissues. The project includes the study of samples of benign and malignant lesions of the skin (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell and melanoma) in vitro and in vivo, using Principal Components Analysis and Discriminant Analysis and therefore the calculation of the relative concentrations of the major biochemical components of tissues, enabling the Raman technique for in vivo diagnosis, quickly and with less invasiveness.
