Abstract

The dental clinics are considered critical areas, environments with high risk of microbial transmission. Greatly, aerosols generated from rotating equipment and peripherals contribute as potential sources of contamination, exacerbated by the alarming burden of microorganisms from dental unit water. The explanation for this phenomenon is attributed to the design / geometry of the delivery system of the dental unit water and the spectacular ability of microorganisms to form complex structures and resistant to antimicrobial agents named biofilms. Biofilms are a community / consortium / microbial food chain protected / built by extracellular polymeric substances, and they are formed on solid surfaces, functioning as a true "amplifier and transmitter system" of microbial contamination. The aim of this project is to propose the implementation of biosafety procedures: control of contamination / infection, in order to maintain an environment biologically dental insurance; subsidized in microbiology and physical chemistry, and thus overcome the challenges associated with microbial exposure. For the evaluation of contamination of dental clinics will employ as analytical equipment: microbiological monitoring system of air and ultraviolet light source (UV) for detecting the local cleaning neglected. Moreover, the development of innovative product with potential applicability to control biofilm on dental unit waterlines will be analyzed with spectral scanning multimode reader and fluorescence microscope.
