Abstract

The objective is to evaluate the ensiling process of the wet orange pulp, and therefore this project will be conducted in three phases. In the phase 1 it will be determinated the citrus pulp pellets concentrations (0, 10%, 20%, 30% w/w) to be added to the wet orange pulp to reach 25% to 35% of final dry material (DM), evaluating the total lost, centesimal composition, microbiological populations, pH, ammoniac nitrogen into the silage at zero and 60 days of fermentation. It will done 20 experimental silos (4 treatments and 5 replications) with 25 liters each. The completely randomized design will be used for the experiment 1. The phase 2 will evaluate the effect of four different levels of chemical and microbiological additives in the wet orange pulp silage with two DM levels: one with original pulp, no pellet added, and another with pulp + pellet selected from phase 1. The additives and respective levels: (BNZ) sodium benzoate (0, 0.05%, 0.1%, 2%), (SRB) potassium sorbate (0, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.2%), (OXC) calcium oxide (0, 0.5%, 1%, 2%) and (BUCH) L. buchineri (0, 1.103, 1.105, 1.107 CFU) will be separately studied in order to execute all analyses as described in phase 1, in the silages at zero time and after 60 days of anaerobic storage. Forty experimental silos will be made per treatment, at factorial design 4 x 2 x 4, being 4 levels of each additive, 2 DM levels of wet orange pulp, with five replications. After the final opening, in each treatment the aerobic stability will be evaluated, measuring the microbial populations, pH, ammoniac nitrogen and silage temperature after 4, 8 and 12 days of aerobic exposure. In the phase 3, it will compare the effect of the additives (BNZ, SRB, OXC, BUCH) with the best level selected from phase 2, in order to control losses during fermentation and aerobic stability of the wet orange pulp silage with two DM levels, as described in the phases 1 and 2. The completely randomized design with time repeated measures will be used in the aerobic stability of the phases1, 2 and 3. The main objective is to obtain a proper silage for animal feed formulation. (AU)
