Study of traits related to energy balance and their association with productive and reproductive traits in dairy Gir cows

Abstract

This proposal aims at the characteristics related to energy balance, milk quality and reproduction of 25 primiparous dairy Gyr under the conditions of a test of performance on pasture. Information that will be recorded are body weights, fat thickness and body condition scores of the cows before calving, at calving and monthly during the lactation period. In addition, milk samples will be recorded monthly and sent to laboratory for analysis of milk constituents, somatic cell count, saturated as unsaturated fat acids in milk and bovine lactoferrin in milk. The dosage of progesterone in milk will be analyzed to detect the onset of luteal activity after calving, and milk samples will be collected from five days after calving, twice a week, to first estrus of the cows. Additional information of first estrus after calving and date of first artificial insemination, as well as the date of conception of the cow will be recorded. Laboratory tests will be carried out in the Laboratório de Fisiologia Animal/FZEA/USP and in the Laboratório Innovare de Biomarcadores, na Faculdade de Ciências Médicas (FCM)/Unicamp. (AU)
