Abstract

This proposal is applied to carry out our ongoing activities previously financed by FAPESP (Proc. 2008/58547-7), Thin films of Transition Metal Complexes for Opto-electronic Devices, supported till November 2011. Several d6 polypyridyl complexes, such as Ru(II), Re(I) and Ir(IIII), will be synthesized and characterized by distinct techniques (elementary analyses, UV-visible absorption and emission, TLC, RMN 1H, cyclic voltammetry etc.). Photochemical and photophysical properties of complexes will be first investigated in fluid solution to proceed in thin films and then compared. Most of films will be prepared from complex and polymer solution by means of wet techniques, such as painting or spin-coating having the morphological properties controlled. Thin films of wide-band gap semiconductors, such as TiO2 and/or ZnO, will be prepared to have the complex chemically adsorbed on oxide surface. The film morphology will be characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, perfilometry, electron and/or atomic force microcopies. The electric and photoelectrochemical properties will be determined by current-potential curves and impedance spectroscopy. The film performances will be evaluated in sensors and energy conversion devices, such as dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) or electroluminescent devices (OLEDs/LECs). (AU)
