Abstract

Herein we are aiming to develop transition metal complexes that exhibit luminescence from both the singlet excited state with characteristics of 1ILCT as the triplet excited states 3MLCT to overcome the spin restriction rules. With this adaptability, the complexes can be used in a multitude of applications including catalytic processes, solar energy conversion to fuels/electricity, biotechnology, photochemical molecular devices. We intend to prepare the fac-[Re(CO)3(fen-PTME)L]0/+1 complexes where fen-PTME = N(-1,10-phenanthroline)-5- perylene 3,4,9,10-tetracarboxidimide, and L = bromide, triflate, and imidazole and investigated their spectroscopic, electrochemical, photochemical and photophysical properties in aqueous solution and in organic solvents. These complexes are interesting because of their chemical robustness, thermal and photochemical stability, intense visible luminescence, and synthetic flexibility to be immobilized in polymeric films. We hope, with this research to open up new perspectives in designing new inorganic luminescent photosensitizers. (AU)
