Investigation on the role of metallodrug-carbohydrate interactions in multidrug resistance tumor cells

Abstract

In these proposed studies, we intend to prepare some dinuclear copper(II) and analogous zinc(II) complexes with imine and/or amine ligands, and characterize the isolated species by different techniques, especially by UV/Vis, IR, EPR, and NMR spectroscopies. Dr. Marius Réglier's group, at Universitè Aix-Marseille, will be mainly responsible for the design and syntheses of specific ligands, that will be used to prepare the corresponding copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes, including mono- and dinuclear species. Our groups have already a previous collaboration on this subject, supported by a COFECUB project (CAPES/USP) that resulted in a Master Degree in 2013 (Cleia Justino Nunes). We intend to verify the activity of this type of metal complexes towards melanoma cells, in particular some lines containing different expressions of galectin-3. In those studies we have the collaboration of Prof. Roger Chammas's group, at Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo (FM-USP), and of Dr. Lia S. Nakao, from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) who are experts on these kind of cells. (AU)
