Development of non-conventional materials and technologies with bamboo in the engineering

Abstract

This proposal of Research Grants - Visiting Researcher aims to extend closer collaboration among researchers for more effective implementation of the thematic research project (FAPESP/ANR - BLANC - AWAPUMAT) titled "Agro industrial wastes and its potential use as appropriate materials for housing and infrastructures (AGROWASTE), FAPESP project 2012/51467-3, coordinated by Prof. Holmer Savastano Junior at the Research Nucleus on Materials for Biosystems, Faculty of Animal Science and Food Engineering, University of São Paulo (USP - FZEA). This proposal aims also benefit the Bamboo Southeast Network - project recently approved by CNPq (458302/2013-9) "Applications of Bamboo for Sustainable Engineering", with participation of FZEA - USP and under the coordination of Prof. Khosrow Ghavami, who has started scientific research about bamboo and natural fibers in engineering since 1979 in Brazil. The planned activities for this application are: 1 - Development and coordination of the ongoing research projects with high impact and excellence; 2 - Implementing new supervisions in the post-graduation Program on Materials Science and Engineering at FZEA/USP, through the innovative research line focused on non-conventional materials and technologies (NOCMAT); 3 - Participation and collaboration on research projects to be submitted to international agencies for research support; 4 - Creation and implementation of the Reference Centre of Excellence in Non-Conventional and Eco-efficient Materials and Technologies for a Sustainable Engineering (NOCMAT Excellence Center) in Brazil.
