Abstract

Type 1 Diabetes has increased considerably around the world, being one of the most common conditions in childhood and a serious and growing public health problem in Brazil. Care to this clients aims to succeed in disease management, promoting education, skill development and treatment adherence. The need to develop new strategies, properly built, interactive and focused on children's needs, having them as the evaluators, is highlighted. The use of interactive technology has been successful as a resource to achieve these goals. This study aims to develop and evaluate an educational video-game, aimed at children with type 1 diabetes mellitus, which addresses issues of physiopathology and self-care. This study will use the pedagogical framework of interactive technology in changing health behaviors and user-centered approach as the methodological framework for the development of technologies such as video-games. As part of the steps to be carried out for the development of the game, following the frameworks, a survey of the profile of patients who receive care at the pediatric endocrinology outpatient clinic at the Ribeirão Preto Medical School Hospital das Clínicas of Sao Paulo University which the research will be carried out and focus groups will be conducted with children aged 7 to 12 years, to identify their learning needs on the disease's physiopathology and self-care, as well as to know their preferences about the game. After data collection the steps to develop the educational video-game will be followed according to the literature, including a review by experts and also by the children, of the empirical field. It is expected to develop a game that simulates children's real life situations in which knowledge of the pathology and self-care are necessary. (AU)
