Abstract

This Visiting Researcher Support application is for the visit of Dr. Balázs Vince Nagy from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. Dr. Nagy has carried out his PhD research in mechanical engineering investigating human color discrimination and identification. During his work in Hungary Dr. Nagy coordinated 8 university subjects in various courses, supervised 13 scientific initiation projects, 9 BSc final projects and 8 MSc projects. After completing his PhD in Hungary he started his post-doctorate research under my supervision in 2010 with FAPESP fellowship (2009/54292-7) at the Vision Laboratory of the Psychology Institute at USP. The title of his proposed project for the visiting professorship shall be "The analysis of perceived brightness in ambients with illuminations of different spectral distributions". Besides the prospective new scientific knowledge on the visual system the research results shall generate a recommendation with parameters for lighting design and application. During his stay Prof. Nagy would also give a post-graduate course on photometry and colorimetry and would collaborate in graduation courses at the Polytechnic School and the Institute of Psychology. Prof. Dr. Balázs Vince Nagy has a broad experience in photometric and colorimetric measurements, and has been working in psychophysical and electrophysiology research both in humans and animal models. His knowledge in MatLab and in other programming languages along with his skills in statistics and data analysis shall be very useful for the research projects of the Laboratory. In summary his visit certainly would result in an advancement of the Laboratory especially in the fields of scientific data analysis as a relevant contribution to several research projects. The results of his principal research project shall be presented in scientific conferences and also submitted for publication in international scientific journals. (AU)
