Abstract

Flow cytometry is a widely used technology and enshrined in various areas of research. In addition to classical tests of cell labeling, which lets us know which cell types are present in the sample, currently, this technique allows for several other tests as intracellular quantification, such as CBA ( Cytometric Beads Array ) and intracellular signaling pathways . These new possibilities further optimize the use of the flow cytometry equipment. In this project, flow cytometry will be used to show which cell types are present at different stages of the healing process, as well as cytokines and growth factors released by them. Moreover, as we will investigate neuroinflammation, flow cytometry will be essential to assess morphology of neurons that may be affected by the administration of fatty acids. Since this is a high technology and that is not yet present in the Faculty of Applied Sciences ,UNICAMP / Limeira, its acquisition is crucial not only for the project in question, but also other studies developed here .At FCA at least 6 research groups , which together have more than 30 students from undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students, will be benefited from this technology. Once purchased and installed by the company, the cytometer will remain in the research lab under my responsibility. All those interested in using the equipment will participate in an introductory course on the technology of flow cytometry for acquisition of basic knowledge. This training will be offered by the company which owns the technology (BD Biosciences).Students from other groups who need to use the equipment will undergo a conversation with me, along with their advisors, to define the best strategy to achieve the desired objective. All the necessary material for the operation of equipment must be provided by the researcher requesting its use. Any maintenance will be performed on a rotating basis among the researchers who will use the equipment with their own funds. (AU)
