Abstract
The adherence from healthcare workers to the Standard Precautions and Specific Precautions is essential to prevent transmission of microorganisms, both at hospitals as at primary healthcare settings. This adherence is known to be low among healthcare workers and other factors besides knowledge may affect these practices. The adherence involves a complex process, which includes knowledge, awareness, social influence, attitude, self-efficacy, intention, action control, maintenance, and facilitation from the healthcare structures in which the healthcare workers are enrolled. Strategies and methods which favor the influence in one or more components in this complex system may raise the adherence to good precautions practices. Pursuant to, it is necessary to develop new strategies having the potential to improve this adherence, using, as example, approaches from the social sciences. This study aims at to develop an educational tool on the theme of the adherence to precautions which can be largely applied in different types of healthcare settings. Multiple project design, including a qualitative study aiming to identify factors affecting adherence in primary and hospital care; technological development applied research aimed at developing educational strategy in the context of primary and hospital care, and a methodological study to validate the developed educational strategy.
