Electronic properties of semiconductor structures

Abstract

The principal objective of this research is to study the optic and transporting properties in semiconductor structures produced in our Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) Laboratory. To this end, we are going to implant the techniques of magneto-transport and hydrostatic pressure. Thus we will be equipped to investigate the effects of the magnetic field which in addition to fulfilling the function of a quantum probe also displays effects of magneto-phonic resonance and cyclotronic resonance. We will also use the coupling of the techniques of hydrostatic pressure with the magnetic field to improve the understanding and distinction between the conducting mechanisms in these structures. In addition to the staff we now have, two students whom we sent abroad to gain their doctorates in this area, will be returning and should rejoin the group. Also as a visiting researcher, for a period of one year, L. Dmowski, a specialist in techniques of hydrostatic pressure in magneto-transport, will join us. Another individual, G. M. Gusev, a specialist in magneto-transport in GaAs mesoscopic systems has already joined the group and will remain here one or two years. Theoretic calculations aiming to support the experimental results, as well as further studies of the influence of impurities, phonons and external fields in the electronic properties of these systems will be carried out. This project, in addition to the intrinsic importance from the academic point of view and for the training of personnel specialized in an area lacking in the country, will have many impacts on cutting edge technology in strategic areas.
