Consolidation of the research concerning interfaces between two immiscible liquids

Abstract

This project has the main purpose to consolidate the research line concerning electrochemical techniques applied directly at interfacial systems involving two or more immiscible liquids. Preliminary results demonstrate that it possible to apply this methodology in different research areas, as corrosion, detection of contaminants directly in the oil and partitioning between two immiscible liquids. To aim our objectives, several studies will be performed using electrochemical and spectrophotometric techniques, whose oil phase is contaminated with ferrocene (molecule model) and other molecules of interest. The aqueous phase will be constituted by conventional electrolyte. Thus, it will be possible to observe the dynamic behavior of ferrocene in the different two phases and to establish a simple methodology to calculate the partition coefficients generated at equilibrium. Spectroscopy, electrochemistry and determination of the contact angle will support the development of the project. (AU)
