Abstract

The Thematic Research Project proposal envisages the increase of cutting-edge knowledge and the training of highly qualified human resources in the area of Environmental Electrochemistry, more specifically in the development and application of Advanced Oxidative Electrochemical Processes (PEOA) and associated processes for the degradation of chemical compounds considered Emerging Pollutants (PE), this being an interface area between Chemistry (Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry and Materials Chemistry) and Engineering (Chemistry, Sanitary, Materials and Environmental), giving the project a transdisciplinary character within the broad area of Exact Sciences.Still in a complementary way to the strongly scientific-technological character, the research project envisages the development of research associated with scientific dissemination activities of research developed within the scope of the Thematic Research Project with society and, mainly, with 9th year students of the elementary school to 3rd year high school students from public schools in the State of São Paulo, mainly in the São Carlos Region. In addition to students, scientific dissemination among teachers at these same schools is essential to increase the attractiveness of careers in the broad area of Exact Sciences, as well as improving teaching, both in Science and Chemistry, in public schools in São Paulo. The Thematic Research Project intends to develop, evaluate and apply new catalytic materials in electrochemical and associated processes for the mitigation of organic compounds (so-called "Emerging Pollutants"), in liquid matrices, evaluating the efficiency of these processes for pollution control and the mitigation of its effects on the environment. Furthermore, the project foresees the development of electrochemical analysis sensors for this type of compounds and the scientific dissemination of knowledge produced both in the scientific world and for society in general, with special attention to public school students. This Thematic Research Project proposal also aims to increase and strengthen a research network already initiated in a FAPESP thematic research project (2017/10118-0), prior to this proposal, involving several research groups from different Research Institutions. Teaching and Research of the State of São Paulo with the aim of developing and acquiring "cutting-edge knowledge" involving: (a) development and evaluation of new catalytic materials for application in analysis sensors and electrochemical and associated processes for the degradation of pollutant species of different liquid matrices; (b) advanced processes for the degradation of emerging organic pollutants in aqueous and non-aqueous matrices using; (c) processes for removing inorganic pollutants in aqueous matrices and volatile organic compounds; (d) New electrochemical sensors for the detection and/or determination of emerging organic pollutants and (e) promote the dissemination of scientific-technological research among academic and non-academic society. The innovations associated with the proposal not only involve the acquisition of scientific-technological knowledge in terms of the "frontier of science", but its dissemination to an audience beyond the scientific community: society as a whole. This proposal also intends to act in the training of specialized human resources and in the production of scientific-technological knowledge to be disseminated in theses, dissertations and monographs, indexed national and international journals and, when applicable, in the form of patents. In addition to technical publications, the project foresees the dissemination of the results obtained among high school students from public schools and society in general. (AU)
