Institutional technical grant for research infrastructure Application Plan - 2014 "reforms and adjustments on the animal facilities - stage 02 - rat vivarium"

Abstract

Considering that the current vivarium at Araçatuba School of Dentistry - UNESP was built in 1976 and it does not meet the contemporary researchers demand, as well as, the current legislation anymore, its remodeling and improvement are needed. Thus, a separate building near the Central Animal Facility is being renovated to be the Vivarium for Rabbits Maintenance and Testing, corresponding to the "Stage 01" of "Reforms and Adequacy of Vivarium" (Plan of Implementation of the Technical Reserve for Institutional Research Infrastructure Support - 2013). Similarly, in order to meet the demands of researchers who are not using dogs as research model anymore, the disable kennel in the Central Animal Facility will be renovated for expansion and improvement of the rat research infrastructure. Thus, this building will become the "Vivarium for Rats Maintenance and Testing". Taking into account the complexity of the facility remodeling, it will be necessary to hire an engineering project. This way, given the researchers demand, the resources from FAPESP institutional technical reserve during the next few years will be applied in the "Vivarium for Rats Maintenance and Testing" until all renovation and adaptations of existing infrastructure are in compliance with current legislation and research demandsAraçatuba School of Dentistry aims to expand its research capacity and funding, strengthening research groups and postgraduate programs and, consequently, raising the level of research to the international standard of publication.
