Application of institutional technical reserve for improvement and adaptation of research laboratories and vivariums of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Campinas (UNICAMP)

Abstract

The Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM) of the University of Campinas (Unicamp) comprises the medical and phonoaudiology undergraduate courses, totalizing 700 students, and 13 (thirteen) graduate programs with 1.100 students. There are 95 laboratories, where clinical and experimental research protocols are developed, resulting in approximately 1000 scientific articles published in periodicals each year. In addition, a significant number of graduate and undergraduate students are trained in science. In recent years, there has been expansion of the FCM research laboratories and vivarium facilities. In this scenery, the financial resources from the Institutional Technical Reserve (ITR) have been of fundamental importance for research infrastructure . The maintenance of vivariums under appropriate conditions reflects on the quality of experimental protocols. Thus, the physical area of the vivariums in the FCM suffered an expressive improvement; including the acquisition of ventilated shelves; air conditioning system and autoclave. Furthermore, the University hired three veterinary physicians for supporting the entire experimentation area, including animals, in the University. The financial resources from the present project will be of fundamental importance for further actions for the improvement and adaptation of research laboratories and vivarium facilities. (AU)
