Managment of row and interrows of Tahiti acid lime planting: sustainability of production

Abstract

The inter row of citrus orchards in Brazil are generally managmented with rotary mower, while the row are mainly used herbicide glyphosate. There is great predominance of Brachiaria decumbens in the orchards. As there are reports of allelopathy B. decumbens with citrus and damage by the continuous use of glyphosate in other cultures, it is intended with this project study two cover crops with different mowers, with and without herbicide, in the lines of Tahiti lime orchard. Therefore, trial was installed in 2010, using the split split-plot scheme in a randomized block design with six replications. In this experiment, the plots are composed of two types of cover crops: Brachiaria decumbens and B. ruziziensis; subplots of two types of rotary mower: conventional and ecological, and split split plots: the application and the absence of the herbicide glyphosate in the row. The cover crops were planted in January 2010 and the orchard Tahiti lime deployed in March of that year. The evaluations were initiated in November 2012 and continued until 2016. Will be measured: dry mass of shoots and roots of cover crops; rate of decomposition and mineralization of nutrients, chemical composition (macro and micronutrients), physical (compaction, porosity and moisture content) and microbiological soil line and leading the orchard, chemical analysis of leaves of Tahiti lime, weed control and finally, levels of shikimic acid and chlorophyll (leaves), root development, vegetative growth (height and diameter) and productive plants in Tahiti lime.
