Abstract

Clinically nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas (ACNF) represent about 30% of pituitary tumors. Are diagnosed early as incidentalomas sellar or later, when they reach sufficient size to cause compressive symptoms neuroftalmológicos and / or hypopituitarism. Macroadenomas (> 1 cm), treatment of choice for most patients is surgical resection. Although surgery can improve the visual change and eventually restore pituitary function in a large number of cases, due to the large tumor volume and growth potential, the result is not satisfactory, requiring adjuvant treatment. There are still patients who refuse surgery and other clinics in poor condition for the operation, in which medical treatment may be the first therapeutic option. The use of dopamine agonists in cases of persistent tumor has been reported, although there is one well established design so that not know the effectiveness of this treatment if tumor rest. In this project, we aimed to evaluate the therapeutic response to dopamine agonist (cabergoline) in patients with tumor remains after surgery and its correlation with the expression of dopamine receptors. Aim to demonstrate that clinical treatment can be a therapeutic effective, being capable of reducing and / or controlling the tumor rest, avoiding the need of radiotherapy and / or further surgery.
