Abstract
Circumvention of obstacles or people during walking, such as when we walk in a shopping mall or on a street, is a commom everyday task. However, circumvention an obstacle during walking has received little attention compared to other walking types, such as crossing an obstacle, mainly in older adults with Parkinson's disease (PD). Thus, the general aim of this study is to analyze motor and visual strategies on circumvention an obstacle during walking in older adults with PD. To answer the questions of the project, three studies will be developed, which will address the effects of PD, the effect of asymmetry caused by PD and the impact of visual information on circumvention an obstacle during walking in older adults with PD. Fifteen older adults with PD and 15 neurologically healthy elderly will participate in the study. The participants will perform clinical evaluation: stage of the disease, PD degree of involvement, and cognitive conditions; walking with circumvention an obstacle evaluation: it will be assessed spatiotemporal parameters, center of mass, feet positioning strategy related to obstacle, personal space and visual parameters according to the purpose of each study. The "ON" and "OFF" state of the medication also will be manipulated according to the purpose of each study. The clinical data will be compared using nonparametric tests. The data related to motor and visual strategies will be compared through ANOVAs according independent variables of the each study. (AU)
