Abstract
This proposal aims the establishment of a collaboration agenda between MRC-ARUK Centre for Musculoskeletal Ageing Research (co-hosted by the Universities of Nottingham and Birmingham) and the Geriatric Medicine groups at the University of São Paulo Medical Schools (Ribeirão Preto and São Paulo Medical Schools), through: a) The development of the research project entitled Effect of resistance training and beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB) supplementation on the adaptative response of muscle in sarcopenic elderly people; b) The realization of short scientific visits and short taught courses / workshops in the fields of sarcopenia, muscle fragility, and musculoskeletal ageing methodologies; c) Use of the collaborative between the MRC-ARUK Centre for Musculoskeletal Ageing Research and the geriatric medicine group of the University of São Paulo and associated activities as a platform to establish a longer-term collaborative programme of research and academic initiatives.
