Abstract

The goal of this project is to develop a portable, remotely supportable, head-only MRI scanner to permit imaging brain function. Achieving this goal will require new magnet technology, new imaging physics, new RF spectrometer technology, and new gradients. A new 1.5 T, high temperature superconducting magnet will operate at liquid nitrogen temperature (77 K) to free the requirements for often unavailable liquid helium and/or a stable power supply for cryo-cooling. A special, customized version of our Digital MR Spectrometer will be developed to allow the use of a new MR Method call STEREO (STEering REsonance over the Object). The main purpose of this application is to make possible the visit of Prof. Michael Garwood to the CIERMag and start the first steps of the development of this method using the proposed arrange.
