Abstract

Certainly the microorganisms are the most versatile form of life. They collaborate with many natural processes and interact with a huge diversity of other organisms. Among the complex microbe-host interactions, the plant pathogens have been better studied mainly due the vast global economics losses and environmental impacts caused by them. Currently, the high-throughput sequencing approaches as genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics have contributed with a better understood of the complex pathogen-plant molecular interactions. These studies are more relevant when applied to understanding pathosystems with significant economic importance and with incipient molecular information as instance eucalyptus rust caused by biotrophic fungus Puccinia psidii. This phytopathogen is originated from South America. As a cosmopolite pathogen, the P. psidii affects many species of Eucalyptus around the world with different degrees of severity, E. grandis being one of the most susceptible hosts. Based on the system biology, the aiming of the present project is the overview and the integration of genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic of P. psidii during its morphogenesis and under Eucalyptus spp. infection process. The obtained data will collaborate with a better understanding of the fungal biology and its pathogenesis process allowing the development of a novel database of genes, transcripts and proteins of P. psidii which will support other research groups as well as will provide some clues about the unknown lifestyle of this bitrophic pathogen. The generated data will also support the application of system biology concepts on pathogen-plant interaction studies by the integration of genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic data to deciphering under a holistic view the molecular plant-microbe interaction that is few explored on Brazil.
