Abstract

We already know what the press did for literature in Brazil. But it seems that there is much to investigate what the literature made by the press and journalism in the early twentieth century. How the presence of the literary pages and the editorial offices introduced a new newspaper story or a new journalistic do? To what extent the literature represented an intervention in the text of journalists, considering that for a long time writer-journalist's figure was not strange in newsrooms of newspapers? Furthermore, it also investigate how the press, in this peculiar period of transformation, was seen and perceived by writers who worked on it.Found especially in Lima Barreto a testament to the emergence of a new journalism and a press that changes from technological and typographic innovations of the time, and introduces the division of writing in specialized editorials as we know today. However, in addition to the testimony, this writer also provides an extremely critical view of this process and its results in the first decades of the twentieth century. Thus, we have in the trajectory of both literary writer-journalist's figure, as a critical perception of the Rio press the First Republic.Focusing Lima Barreto as one of the writers whose trajectory entails an analysis of the relationship between the press and literature in the early twentieth century, we intend to examine their articles, essays, short stories, novels, diaries and correspondence, with the central axis of investigation the way as this writer understands and analyzes the role of the press, as well as its journalism practiced.
