Abstract

Ganoderma, the largest genus of the family Ganodermataceae, is well defined due to basidiospores very characteristic, is widely distributed and occurs especially in tropical regions. Although this is the most important pathogen of many plants of economic interest, the delimitation of species is still not well solved due to the large morphological variability, and little is known about its decomposition potential, which makes the management of the infected species difficult and causes serious economic losses. This study aims to identifying the species of Ganoderma occurring in the urban tree "sibipiruna" (Caesalpinia pluviosa DC. var. peltophoroides (Benth.) G.P. Lewis), in the Municipality of São Paulo and its pattern of decay in the stem. A total of 20 tree specimens infected were selected and a diagnosis was made before collecting the basidiomata. Fungi cultures were obtained from the collected basidiomata. For macroscopic analysis of the healthy and affected wood, and if compartmentalization occurs, three specimens with technical report for removal as a result of their condition will be selected, and upon removal of the logs, discs of the trunks will be collected. The degradation of heartwood and sapwood sawdust of different tree specimens infected by isolated fungi will be evaluated, and also the production of lignocellulolytic enzymes. Identification will be based on morphological analysis of basidiomata. It will be assessed if there is a relationship between the diameter at breast height of the specimen and the presence of basidiomata of Ganoderma, as well as the importance of the decomposition of the stem in assessing the potential risk of falling of the urban trees in São Paulo.
