Abstract

The research aims to develop ethnographic experiments in cities of different scales, from small size to big cities, and observe collectives that move among them such as networks of prostitution, migrants, truckers. It intend to analyze how the borders between cities are constructed and deconstructed and what forms of the urban arising from these liminal experiences. This proposal meets with studies that has been developed in the Laboratory of the Center for Urban Anthropology (LabNAU), University of São Paulo (USP), particularly in the group Urban Ethnology (USG). This research has the purpose of contribute to the recent debate on urban anthropology in Brazil concerning the borders within the discipline as well as other areas of the human sciences in an attempt to elaborate ethnographic theories of cities and reflect upon new models of the urban in the contemporary world.
