Abstract

This project aims to understand ways in which people networks in relative positions of social inequality, particularly feminine ones, and in critical contexts, mobilize enactments and relations of care and management of affection, differences and materialities. These enactments and relations have the effect of creating, modifying or impacting the grammatical conditions of their existence. As a result of the theoretical and empirical frames, the intersectional analysis effort takes into account similarities marked by generation, gender, sexual practices, origin and mobility, life stories of violence, economic transactions, kinship logics, religion and ethnicity, within the framework of the processes of contemporary Amazonian frontiers. This is an ethnographic-based research, based on a process of more than 7 years of research in two Brazilian border cities in the Amazon: Tabatinga and São Gabriel da Cachoeira (AM). In the case of the first one, this project is focused on the understanding of care practices of young, especially "gay" and transgender adolescents linked to an Umbanda "terreiro" through which highly affective bonds and connections are woven. In the case of the second, the emphasis is placed on the ways in which indigenous women deal with and face structured forms of violence, with special emphasis on the dimensions related with sexuality, money, traditional knowledge and political organization.
