Abstract

Dr. Jérôme Havenel academic visit, given the philosophical specialties which has been dedicated to, will meet the expectations of different Brazilian Groups/Research Projects whose activities are developed with some association between their researchers in São Paulo Universities: UNESP (Assis and Marilia - peirce's continuity project and cognitive studies group), PUCSP (Center for Pragmatism Studies, international Studies on Peirce, and Unicamp (auto-organization research group). These groups have in common lines of work in the area that lies between philosophy and mathematics. Prof. Havenel dual background and skills in Mathematics and Philosophy really fits their academic expectations. The Havenel doctoral, Logique et du continu mathematique chez CS Peirce (currently being edited as a book "Peirce's Philosophy of Continuity") , is considered of key significance to the Peircean studies, by giving to this central important theme on the philosophy of Charles Sanders Peirce, systematization, since it successfully and thoroughly scrutinzes the relationship between metaphysics and mathematics in Peirce's work. A study of such a scope naturally establishes relationships and confrontations with much of contemporary philosophy of mathematics, bringing together elements ranging from logic to metaphysics. Thus, the Groups and Research Projects involved with the intended Visiting Scholar are located at an intersection for which the research developed by Prof. Havenel might perform multiple and productive dialogue. Eventually, not only each group/project in particular will profit from Mr. Havenel academic sojourn, but the link between them will be strengthened as well, resulting in a fruitful dialogue, broad reach and powerful irradiation.
