Effect os probiotic supplementation on macrophage function and mucosal immunity after exhastive exercise

Abstract

Acute strenuous exercise induces several physiological and biochemical responses with high immunosuppressive power. The supplementation of probiotics is an attempt to mitigate the effects of exercise on the innate immune system. Thus the aim of this study is to assess the effects of supplementation of probiotics on monocyte function and mucosal immunity after a strenuous acute exercise long term. To this 15 participants will be supplemented during 30 days (2.0 g / day of probiotics) and 15 participants will be supplemented with placebo for 30 days (2.0 g / day of corn starch). Later run a marathon (42.190m). Before supplementation period, 24 hours before the marathon, marathon, and immediately after the recovery after one hour, 30 ml of blood will be collected for determination of the monocyte cell function, also for plasma levels of cytokines and hormones and saliva. The descriptive analysis of the data will be held by mean ± standard error. The normality of the data will be verified by the Shapiro-Wilk`s test from the normal distribution of data will be given the appropriate hypothesis test by the experimental design of the study and level of significance will be p d 5%.
