Techniques and processes in mushrooming: supplementation of compost and utilization of spent mushroom in the agriculture

Abstract

Production of substrate for growing mushrooms is cited as the most critical step in the cultivation process, with drastic consequences on yield and quality of production, in addition to directly influence the economic viability of the activity. At the end of the composting process, the nitrogen content and C/N ratio of the substrate can be corrected by supplementation applied with the addition of the mushroom spawn. Although widely used in North America and Europe, in Brazil, few are known about this technology, besides not find any commercial supplement to use. In this sense, this project aims at developing handcrafted supplements, which have the same characteristics of trademark supplements in other parts of the world, where the technology of mushroom production is more developed. Another application to be achieved in this project is the use of spent mushroom substrate as soil conditioner, since several studies have indicated it as a source of nutrients for crop production, biological product suit against pathogens causing diseases in plants and biorremediador of contaminated soils with herbicide residue. So be held 10 experiments to best apply these technologies, with the participation of a multidisciplinary team of professors and researchers working in universities and research centers in Brazil and abroad.
