Abstract

This proposal basically comprises the development (synthesis, characterization and other chemical investigations) of a new series of complexes of formula [Ru2O(carb)2(L)6]n (carb = nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and L = pyridine) and [Ru3O(CH3COO)6(L)2(L')]PF6 (L = pyridine ligands, solvent, phenazine or azanaphtalene ligands, and L' = CO or NO), in order to investigate and further develop their potential biological activities, namely anticancer activity, antiallergic activity and trypanocide activity.The synthesis of the new complexes will follow routes described in the literature by my own research group or by others, or through the development of new routes. The physical-chemical characterization will be performed by elemental analysis and by mass spectrometry, and by means of spectroscopic techniques such as electronic absorption and emission spectroscopy in the UV-visible region and absorption in the infrared region and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Apart from these, it will also be performed electrochemical experiments such as cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry.In addition to the synthesis and physico-chemical characterization of the new series of complexes, it will also be investigated their interactions with molecules of biological relevance, namely DNA and human serum albumin. Interactions with DNA will be studied by electronic absorption spectroscopy and data processing will be done using the Benesi-Hildebrand model. Interactions with human serum albumin will be studied by electronic and fluorescence spectroscopy, and data processing will be performed using the Stern-Volmer model. (AU)
