Genomic identification of cecal microbiome of the horses with laminitis induced by oligofructose. Effects of cecal buffering

Abstract

Acute laminitis is a highly debilitating inflammatory disease involving tissue laminate cores of clinical outcomes ranging from equine cure the chronic and often lethal, whose physiopathology is multifactorial. This syndrome could be secondary to acute diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, especially for grain overload or come associated with septic or endotoxics diseases. It is known that drastic changes in the equine dietary ingredients can induce metabolic imbalance in the intestinal flora with systemic effects induced by endotoxins absorption. Thus it intends to employ Ion Torrent PGM® platform to identify, by sequencing techniques "second generation", the cecal equine's microbiomes exposed to carbohydrate overload comparing them with those observed in the cecal contents of horses kept in regular diet. Experimental induction of carbohydrate overload will be made by the administration of oligofructose. Samples of the cecal contents will be obtained by percutaneous aspiration after early surgical attachment of the cecum in the wall of the abdomen. Alongside, a buffer solution will be administered, to evaluate the effects of it on the cecum microbiome and the evolution of laminitis. (AU)
