Abstract

This article presents and analyzes contemporary conditions of political action, notably those that are mechanical or functional in nature, indicating strategies for acting independent of related discourse or political undertakings. We hypothesize that, in the face of these conditions, traditional categories like sovereignty, representation, government institutions and civil society, are not sufficient instruments to comprehend the practice of politics. Even analyses that point to micropractices shaped by subjectivities and discourses seem to fall short. We argue that systems that produce subjectivities are most productive at the intersection between discourse and function, producing processes for guiding individual and collective life in which the control and governing of political action operate. To develop this concept of the limits and reaches of practicing politics, we refer to authors who break from traditional analysis, such as: Hannah Arendt (fabrication and the biological in practicing politics), Michel Foucault (disciplinary power and political machines), Félix Guattari and Gilles Deleuze (machinic enslavement). We will also use cross-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary approaches from different fields of knowledge to experiment with certain possibilities of using the aforesaid tools of philosophy. (AU)
