Remodeling of the cytochemical laboratory annual plan for the application of the grant designated to institutional research infrastructure costs

Abstract

The cytochemistry Laboratory was created along with the HSCT program of the Amaral Carvalho Hospital for the realization of the CMV antigenemia technique. Since 2004, new diagnostic techniques were implemented to better assist the HSCT recipient, based on the results obtained in research projects approved by FAPESP. Thus, the following techniques were implemented: Indirect immunofluorescence for respiratory viruses, real-time polymerase chain reaction for EBV, real-time polymerase chain reaction for HHV-6, multiplex PCR for respiratory viruses, PCR for tuberculosis, latent TB diagnosis by interferon-gama release assay, detection of CMV-specific T-cell immunity, and detection of Aspergillus galactomannan. For the implementation of new techniques various equipment and reagents were purchased with funds from these projects. The laboratory currently occupies a 40m2 area located in the hallway between the HSCT wards I and II, which is very small to harbor all the equipment acquired and to perform all techniques that have been implemented over the last 10 years and those to come in the next years. Thus, the present project proposes the remodeling of the Cytochemical Laboratory as the Annual Plan for the application of the grant designated to Institutional Infrastructure Costs for Research.
