Abstract

The main aim of this project is to develop a methodology that allows the Centro Paula Souza to play a exercising more active role in fostering regional development in the State of São Paulo, through the support of the competitiveness of firms, especially small and medium-sized, of the regions of the state. Centro Paula Souza has a structure of training of manpower at the technical and technological level that stands out for its high capillarity, since it has units spread across all regions of the state. In addition, the various units of the Centro Paula Souza also stand out for their adherence to local firms' capabilities in the regions of São Paulo state, since several of their teaching units were established from manpower training demands of local productive structures. In this sense, it is a very appropriate setting in which the demands of new capabilities of local firms, in the various regions of São Paulo, are appropriately met by professionals from Centro Paula Souza. Previous studies, in the international literature (D'Este and lammarino, 2010; Laursen et al, 2010) and applied to Brazil (Garcia et al, 2014) show the importance of education and research institutions to meet the demands of geographically nearby firms even when these institutions have poorer academic performance. In order to achieve these aims, the main activities of the project will be: 1. Assessment the local production structure of the regions of São Paulo; 2. Assessment of existing capabilities in Centro Paula Souza units; 3. Development of a methodology that facilitates he approximation of the demands of local firms in the regions of São Paulo state and the capabilities of the Centro Paula Souza; and, finally, 4. Establishment of a pilot project in the units of Centro Paula Souza of Paraíba Valley region. (AU)
