TTO capacity to leverage strategies, modeling and prospection of technologies in intellectual property environment

Abstract

The Technological Research Institute of São Paulo State (IPT) has a Technology Transfer Office (TTO) established since 1981, which acts in commercializing, negotiating and protecting the intellectual property (IP). Currently, the Institute is implementing a strategic plan to act more effectively in innovation and to intensify the technological transfers to enterprises, by measuring through various performance indicators grouped in themes, such as the so-called "path of innovation". The required activities for TTO to boost capacitation comprise three main themes: modeling of new business approaches; prospection, assessment and valuation of technologies; and strategies for negotiate and protect IP. A better understanding and identifying of new opportunities and possibilities to generate different business models enhance the impact of the institute on the society, the understanding of how tools are used to prospect new topics, the assessment, valuation and commercialization of technologies, generating better results in negotiations and protection of intellectual property. The study shows different strategies to deal with patents, and mostly follow their use by business partners, also aims to improve the training of human resources, in addition to strengthening the interactions and the relationship of the NIT with established international experiences.
