Abstract

This research is set from a Schumpeterian theoretical and kaleckiano to analyze the development of the competitive process in specific sectors of economic activity, involving four distinct types of market structures: (i) oligopoly; (ii) differentiated oligopoly; (iii) differentiated concentrated or mixed oligopoly; (iv) competitive oligopoly. The dynamic effects of innovation on the competitive process in each market structure will be raised through a sector model simulation, considering the technological specifics of real sectors of the Brazilian economy. The sectoral evolutionary model proposed by Possas, Koblitz et al (2001) is adapted to simulate the impact of process innovations and product on the development of competition in selected sectors getting its dynamic results expressed in the following variables: (1) Market Share; (2) Mark-up; (3) Gross profit; (4) Concentration degree in the market; (5) Share of profits in industry income.
