Abstract

The project has as main objective study the thermodynamic behavior of polymeric films mechanic and hydrogels films aimed at future applications such as biomaterials. Syntheses of hydrogels will be realized from modification of commercial cellulose acetate (CA) with degree of substitution (GS) 2.5. The hydrogels are obtained through esterification and crosslinking reactions between hydroxyl groups of CA and ethylenediamine tetraacetate (EDTAD). After the synthesis, the hydrogels will be analyzed and characterized by severall important techiniques. The biocompatibility studies will be the main intended application of gels. Our research group presents its experience in synthesis and preparation of biomaterials in the form of films. So little expressive the biomaterials are characterized according to their mechanical properties, being almost exclusively focused on studies of cell growth assay, biocompatibility, controlled release, among others. Very little has been published taking into consideration the relationship between thermomechanical-properties and biocompatibility in general. Thus, our research group has as main objective to study the biocompatibility of the films that will be prepared in this project and go a little further, consider the possible application of the materials on the basis of their thermodynamic properties.
