A back-up system for electric energy generation as a way to keep stability of its supply to the research laboratories of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - UNESP, in Araçatuba

Abstract

Unexpected interruption in power supply can cause serious damage, such as equipment damage, loss of supplies, and delays in work. Even in situations where shutdowns are scheduled and reported, serious impairment of activities may occur for those that require uninterrupted power supply. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Araçatuba has faced problems with the supply of electric energy, such as unexpected interruptions, long-term programmed cuts for network repairs or even intervals with sudden voltage variations or with one or more phases falling. These occurrences put at risk several academic activities that require 100% security in the supply of energy, such as those developed in the surgical center of the Veterinary Hospital, or in research laboratories that use sophisticated equipment of processing and conservation of samples or, which demand rigorous and continuous environmental control. In these cases, the guarantee of stability in the supply of electric energy is mandatory and is only obtained with systems of back-up for generation of energy that can be quickly activated in any interruptions in the energy provided by the local company. The objective of the present project is the implantation of a back-up system of generation of energy with Motor Generator Unit (MGU), for assistance of research laboratories of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine that operate with equipment of very high cost or use active environmental control systems, continuously.
