Taxonomy and fossildiagenetic analysis of Brazilian Paleozoic lingulides from Parnaíba and Paraná Basins

Abstract

Lingulids are bivalved, chitinophosphatic organisms that occur through the Phanerozoic worldwide. The present proposal has the aim to acquire morphological, phylogenetic and fossildiagenetic data of Paleozoic lingulids from brazilian Paraná and Parnaíba Basins. Using innovative and alternative technology, the morphological data will be linked to the fossildiagenetic one to obtain information on the paleobiodiversity of the studied group, through time and space. The purpose is to amplify the knowledge on Brazilian Paleozoic lingulid paleobiodiversity, linking the morphological with the chemical data, in a way to avoid taphotaxa creation. Moreover, it is likely that the morphological data will be able to provide enough characters to make a phylogenetic approach possible. Firstly, we will perform a state of the art on the subject, followed by the taxonomical classification of the specimens collected from field trips and/or analyzed from museum/institutions collections. The 3D equipment for obtaining the morphological features will be developed and tested through the project. Several chemical techniques will be applied to the most propitious specimens. Phylogenetic analysis will be performed by the end of the project, when all selected specimens will already have been observed. Several researchers of different scientific areas are essential to the development of this work. (AU)
