This proposal aims the synthesis and characterization of amphoteric high surface area catalysts derived from the calcination of hydrotalcites produced by atomization with general formula Mg6Al2(CO3)(OH)16*4(H2O) containing transition metals Ag, Cr, V, W, Mo, Mn, Cd, Zr, Nb and La in 5% (m / m) as modifiers for the partial ethanol reforming in fixed bed reactors at atmospheric pressure. As a consequence of dehydrogenation and partial dehydration of ethanol, a number of value-added compounds are formed via aldol condensation reactions and known as Guerbet compounds with expressive amount of hydrogen. The catalytic properties of the catalysts (composition, texture, thermal properties, ratio of acid-base sites), catalyst distribution in the reactor, ethanol feed rate in terms of the qualitative and quantitative profile of the catalysts, products profile as well as the stability of the reaction in a period of up to 24 continuous hours will be studied. Anhydrous and hydrated ethanol (5%), as found in sugarcane mills, also composes the set of variables to be studied. The reaction products will be collected in three vials in series: (i) condensed at 0 oC; (Ii) condensates in liquid N2; And (iii) non-condensed. Identification and quantification will be performed by gas chromatography with three types of detectors (TCD, FID and MS). It is important to identify catalytic materials and conditions that promote the greater conversion of ethanol into higher value-added compounds, such as hexanol, branched alcohols and others. (AU)
