Abstract

There are several researches presently aiming to develop individual, public or specific places security devices. State of art technology application is expensive and, generally, has production concentrated in large companies. However, widespread knowledge in subjects like pattern recognition and sensors in promising radiation ranges, it has been possible to apply advanced technologies in low cost solutions. Our proposal is to research and, in future, to build and commercialize an advanced technological product to automatically recognize security. This security system will be defined as an early warn and can be classified as an Automatic Threat Recognition - ATR, a category included in the most general of pattern recognition systems. Na ATR: it is extremely valuable to be able to be warned about a threatening situation. Although a warning is only a part of the personal or general defense, this may be crucial when someone or a group of people is threatened. An early alarm is beneficial to any threaten responsive system. . The most common security systems are based on human response to surveillance objectives; in fact they are based on the human capacity of recognizing any threaten. However, it is well known the difficulties of keeping an adequate surveillance, with the same constant attention for long periods of time, frequently for 24 hours a day, every day. The human recognition of a threatening situation is mostly efficient; this is very well known. But, on the other hand, the human attention is extremely variable and the nature of a threatening event is sporadic if compared to its time span. This changes human based surveillance systems in very low quality ones. We must remember that low cost systems only register facts or use simple movement detection technologies, a huge limiting factor to their use. If associated to human labor job needs, these systems do not deserve the popularity they have. An automatic system eliminates the "boredom" factor. Our objective is to create a product which will be inserted in the value chain of the early warn systems and, most of all, to meet our country peculiarities where the threaten associated to robbery or assault is most likely to occur than any terrorist threaten in controlled spaces. Product conception: future product will be an automatic, intelligent, customer specified, to detect potentially hostile gesture and objects. Looking like a surveillance camera, its sensor will monitor 24 hours a day its area range, recognizing positions, weapons and objects, when exposed directly in its area range. If something is detected, a warning signal is emitted which can be used by an existing surveillance system or can be communicated, through a mobile network, to a specific number. In its basic specification, beyond its insertion in the value chain of a surveillance system, the product will be able to supply a standard warn to be available to the wireless system or phone system. The system is an automatic object detector for application in security and surveillance, for internal or external places. The system will be able to operate, actively or passively, in several radiation ranges, without human interference. It will be able to be connected to an existing surveillance system or be operated isolated. Its cost will be affordable enough to meet a small business or store financial standards. It will be different from other solutions because it will not need that a person investigated be inspected in any cabin or portico, it will not need any long scanning operation on user and it will not be designed to detect concealed objects. One of its most remarkable differences will be its affordable and popular sale price in the national market. (AU)
