Improvements in the connectivity of the networks of the IPEN research center with the use of modern equipment with IPv6 protocol support

Abstract

In September 2015, the National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN), the managing body of IPEN, began implementing a Dissemination Plan for the use of IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6), to be adopted in its research units, spread throughout the territory (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, among others). This plan is part of an effort by SISP - Information Technology Resource Management System, from the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management, to migrate the IPv4 protocol to IPv6 until September 2018 in all federal public administration.IP version 4, or IPv4, has been, since 1983, the technological base on which the Internet is based. This protocol proved to be quite robust and easy to use. However, its project dates back to the 1970s and did not anticipate some important aspects today, such as the tremendous growth of the network. (AU)
