Abstract

Interactions between biotic and abiotic processes are still poorly understood in alkaline environments, due to intense biogeochemical reactions, but limited in space (hot spots) and in time (hot moments). In this context, we propose to characterize in detail the soil cover associated with the different types of alkaline lake (with green, black or crystalline waters) in the Pantanal of Nhecolândia. This work will be carried out by indirect (low frequency electromagnetic induction) and direct observations of the soil cover. The aim is to understand the interactions between solid phases, dissolved fluxes and gaseous emissions on such systems. The diversity of soils and the functioning of the systems will serve as a basis for GHG emissions measurements from soils and surface waters. On this same basis, samples will be collected to understand the dynamics of Arsenic, a toxic element whose high contents have been detected. (AU)
