Abstract

Risk analysis is an important tool in the decision making process applied to development of petroleum fields due to several geological, economic e technological uncertainties, among others. This tool has been applied in petroleum exploration and then in field development. Some current studies have shown that it is also important to use risk analysis in mature fields, because changes in economic and technological scenarios may demand important decisions for the field management, mainly large marine ones. However, reliable risk analysis demands several simulation runs but for large offshore fields the process is impracticable due to the high computational effort. Thus, in many situations, risk analysis is not applied yielding inadequate decisions. The objective of this work is to determine a methodology to make the process viable, studying different ways to reduce computational effort based on simplifications in the process. A methodology that will be developed will be based in 2 important items: (1) mature fields have uncertainties due to the presence of a production history that allow a calibration in the model and (2) the decisions are normally specific for some parts of the fields allowing simplification of the model in other parts of the reservoir. A secondary objective of this work is to continue the work of Moura Filho (2005) about integration of uncertainties analysis and production history match to adapt the methodology to mature fields.
