Abstract

Water is an essential element to life, but his consume can bring risks to the human health in face of its bad quality, serving as a vehicle for some biological and chemical agents, that can lead to development of some illnesses. In general, these diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms of enteric origin, transmitted by the fecal-oral route. In Brazil, the legislation about the quality of water is based on a ordinance nº 518 of 25 of March of 2004 of the HM, that establishes the procedures and responsibilities related to the control and monitoring of the of the water quality for human consumption. The purpose of this study aims to know the quality of water consumed in municipal public primary schools in Ribeirão Preto - SP; evaluating the possible risks of water as a way of transmission of pathogens. The knowledge of city water quality can supply subsidies to the sanitary authorities implant measured compatible with the best maintenance of water quality, in order to guarantee adequate conditions of ambient sanitation, especially in relation to the quality of the water for the human consumption. This is a subject of extreme relevance in public health and the study have the purpose to contribute for the health promotion, considering that the drinking water could be contaminated, offering harmful risks to the health. Samples will be selected and secure stored from schools of the municipal public primary education of Ribeirão Preto, SP, where microbiological analyses for determination of the numbers most probable of total and fecal-coliforme will be carried through, and physical-chemichal analyses will be conducted to determination of turbidity values, nitrates, pH, chlorine and fluorine, being overcome as parameter the ordinance 518.
