Abstract The Obstructive Slepp Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is characterized as chronic, gradual, incapacitante illness, with high morbidade and cardiovascular mortality, with bigger incidence of neurological alterations, metabolic and increase of the number of automobile accidents, being caused for the repetitive dynamic blockage of the superior aerial ways. In view of the risks, the treatment must in accordance with etiology, predisponent and perpetuantes the factors involved. The therapeutical includes the modifications, the use of device of positive aerial pressure, surgeries for removel of hindrance of the superior aerial ways mannering or still, the use of some types of intra-oral devices. In 2006, in the United States of America about 800 a thousand drivers with OSAS if they had involved in automobile accidents, with expense of about US$15,9 billions, to the step that the treatment of these patients with cPAP would be around US$3,1 billions.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of intra-oral device in hospital of education, the treatment of the Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome. METHODS: They will be evaluated and treated 20 patients, with age between 15 - 60 years, index of corporal mass of up to 35 kg/m2, light or moderate OSAS (AHI: 5-30/h), absence of blockage of the superior aerial ways and verbal health for support of the device; e excluded patient with serious cardiopathy, bigger or endocrinology use of psicotropycs, mental upheavals.After 60 days the patients will make new polissonography with the use of the intra-oral device, and will be applied questionnaire RDC/TMD, the clinical fiche of the Team of Orofacial Pain (EDOF/HC) and Epworth Somnolence Scale, before and 60 days of the installation of the intra-verbal device. | |
