Abstract This study aims for an investigation of the relationship between realism and cinema among the sociological discussion regarding documentary cinema. Priority will be given to the filmography of American documentarian Frederick Wiseman, one of the exponents of the so called "Direct Cinema" movement. The intention is to aim for a bibliographical and interpretative study of the discussion regarding realism and documentary cinema as well as deeper analysis of the complete filmography of Wiseman. With this in mind, we arrive at the more specific objects of this study. We aim for a deep analysis of the complete Wiseman filmography analyzing a) the relationships, similarities and differences in the filmic construction in the interior of the Wiseman filmography b) the relationships, similarities and differences in the filmic construction among Wiseman and other directors of the Direct Cinema c) the relationships, similarities and differences in the filmic construction among Wiseman and other similar cinematographic movements, such as the French Cinema Vérité and the British Free Cinema. | |
