Abstract

The association between dietary habits and oral health and the reliability and validity process of the measuring instrument before survey information's is very important to epidemiological study. Regarding this the present study aimed to establish the cultural adaptation and reliability of the "Questionnaire in exploring parental attitudes in children's dental care" proposed by ARNUP et al. (2001). The sample group of 200 parents of schoolchildren from first, second, third and fourth grade will be selected, from probabilistic analysis from the public school list in São Carlos city (SP-Brazil). A questionnaire proposed by ARNUP et al. (2001), to English language, will be used. The cultural adaptation of the questionnaire will be carried out from an initial English-portuguese version. The version will be submitted to three stage process: an English-portuguese translation evolution, face validity by multidisciplinary committee and pre-test that will be realized to analyze idiomatic, semantics, cultural and orthographic characteristics of the instrument. Questions to showed incomprehension index larger or same 20% will be revised. The content validity, internal consistency and reproducibility of the questionnaire will be estimated.
