Abstract

Despite the ongoing drastic changes in the energy market in Brazil due to deregulation, the Brazilian energy sector is still planned and operated using concepts, methodologies and tools that have been designed for the old vertically integrated power system. This research project has as a main objective to propose, implement, solve and test a Hydrothermal Generation Pre-dispatch (PDG) model for the deregulated environment. The proposed model is aimed at handling some specific deficiencies, pointed-out in the project, and it has the following basic characteristics: i) the aspects associated with the energy market are intrinsically handled in the PDG model; ii) the interrelation between pool and bilateral markets are represented through a unique PDG optimization model; iii) the model is formulated in a hourly basis, effectively setting the basis for the implementation of a short term market in Brazil; iv) the hydraulic generation loss function is evaluated as a basis for the adoption of hydraulic generation bids in the pool market.
